Session Reflection
There wasn’t anything new that I took away from this session in terms of new skills, tools, etc. However, I did appreciate understanding how a college CIO went through his career – the achievements, struggles, and leadership learning that he did over the past 40 years. I’ve often questioned where my career path is going to take me: staying within the institution, changing institutions, moving into a central IT role, assuming an administrator role, etc. It seems like the sky is the limit, but in reality, the resources and opportunities don’t always align. One of the things the presenter talked about included the “4 Rights”:
- The right person
- The right seat
- Doing the right things
- At the right time
While it sometimes feels as though the future is unclear or that there are limits to what can be accomplished, I have to continue reminding myself that once the 4 Rights are satisified, changes will happen.
